Best of Lima
San Francisco Church
Take a guided tour of the majestic seventeenth-century San Francisco Church,
whose architectural highlights include elaborate Moorish-style reliefs and a
vast crypt holding more than 70,000 sets of human remains.
Museum of the Inquisition
Lima was the capital of the Inquisition in Latin America, and the Museo de La
Inquisición preserves the tribunal chamber where alleged heretics were tried and
the basement dungeons used for execution and torture.
Las Brisas del Titicaca
Lima's finest folklore music nightspot, Las Brisas del Titicaca
specializes in cheap food and beer along with excellent Andean music and dancing
until the early hours.
L'Eau Vive
Prepare yourself for an unusual dining experience at L'Eau Vive , where
nuns serve up excellent French food and then finish the evening off with a
chorus of Ave Maria .
Plaza San Martín
When riot police and protestors aren't squaring off in Plaza San Martín -
rallying point for Lima's frequent demonstrations - there's actually quality
people-watching to be had as crowds of mimes, knickknack peddlers and locals
take over.
Cross of the Venerable Padre Urraca
Every day in the Church of La Merced, thousands of Peruvians plant their lips on
the silver staff of the Cross of the Venerable Padre Urraca and pray for
miracles - even the quickest of visits will make you believe in divine
intervention.
Pachacamac
Even if you're headed for the better-known ruins of Machu Picchu, the impressive
Pachacamac citadel makes for a worthy diversion from Lima, and is close to some
of the area's most attractive beaches.
Larco Mar
A superbly located cliff-top shopping and entertainment complex overlooking the
Pacific Ocean at the end of downtown Miraflores's main commercial drag.
Torre Tagle Palace
A beautifully maintained mansion dating back to the 1730s, the Torre Tagle
Palace showcases many architectural elements from the era - including
elaborately carved ceilings, pillars and tiling that fuse Moorish and Limeño
tastes.
Las Brujas de Cachiche
One of Lima's top restaurants and certainly the one with the strongest theme -
traditional healing and "witchcraft" - Las Brujas de Cachiche has an
excellent menu prepared with ingredients only available in Peru and commonly
used over 1000 years ago.
